I think you were right the first time, Eugene - unless you have a password 
when you log in (or the "run as" account has a password), the task scheduler 
will not run.

My solution: put it in your startup group instead ("plucker-desktop 
--update-due") and that way, every time you turn on your computer, it'll 
update the channels.

Otherwise you could create a user for scheduled tasks as described in the KB 
articles.
