I would like to know if it's normal that the icons within plucker (i.e globe and mail , CBC ) are low res with the latest version? Is there something i'm not configuring correctly?

It is normal for the images of a webpage to appear smaller on the Plucker screen (similar to as if you look at a webpage on your desktop browser at 640x480 and then again at 1024 resolution, the images will appear to be smaller.
You could use some custom scripting to preprocess the HTML to write tags that have bigger height="" and width="" attributes, or else add a line in the Python parser that will double the values for height and width. The images will look bigger but pixelly though.
