That's the way it's supposed to work. The 'visual aids' (back button and
scanner) are only shown (if the pref is turned on) when the stylus is
down. They disappear so they don't block the image.

It sounds like the viewer isn't getting the proper screen size. The
unused part of the screen is supposed to be cleared.I don't know anything
about the hires code, but, I'll look.
Maybe someone familiar with hires can chime in?
