Greetings
After reading that Plucker had been updated to v 1.8 to support AlphaSmart Dana's wide screen, I hurried on over to the site to install the software.
* My environment:
Mac OS X 10.2.8 -- G4 2x450, 768k RAM, USB connection to
Dana by AlphaSmart (original, not wireless, but updated firmware) with two SD slots and two cards, slot 1 = 64mb, slot 2 = 32 mb.
* My expertise:
Using {Apple IIs|Macs} for 20 years, *not* a programmer, zero Unix knowledge
Have used iSilo for almost a year, but unable to get its "sucker" parser to work correctly. (I've just been saving the "print" versions of pages I intend to read and converting manually.) This is why the possibility of a Dana-supporting Plucker excited me so much!
* Story so far:
Downloaded the "latest" .dmg file for Mac "Plucker_1.6.0.1.dmg"
Used the install Wizard, installed plucker and manual to SD card (my Dana has two SD slots, and two cards)
Was able to open Plucker on the Dana, but not the manual. Error message:
ZLib not supported: This device cannot handle Zlib compressed documents
Was able to pluck the Onion site to create DOC-compression channel, Plucker successfully displayed it --- but only in the standard (small) Palm screen size.
Checked the "About Plucker" and it says version = 1.6.
Delete Plucker from Dana using the Apps screen.
I go back to the plkr.org site, download the "plucker_viewer_nonhires-1.8.zip" file, doubleclick to install on Dana. Can successfully install in RAM, but not on either card. But again, no tall screen support, and stated version is 1.6
Questions:
0. If there's a better place to be asking these questions, tell me where.
1. Is there something I can install on my Dana to allow Zlib support? (I *did* install the "SysZLib.prc" file).
2. Is a non-Zlib compressed edition of the manual available?
3. Is it possible to install the Plucker application in RAM, but the plucked channels on an SD card?
4. Where can I find the Plucker v1.8 that supports Dana's wide (actually, I prefer tall) screen?
