I've just acquired a Zaurus SL-5500, which is of course a Linux-based
handheld tool. After playig around with it and Plucker for a week, I
have managed to get Plucker to work for the Zaurus with the following
setup: Firstly, the OpieReader for the Zaurus reads Plucker files with
very few problems. Of course the destination directory for Plucker needs
to be changed! I created a folder in My Documents named Plucker files,
and put a shortcut on my desktop; I made that directory the destination
for Plucker downloads. (Since I also run pdaConverter, I made that the
destination directory for that application too.) As the OS I run on the
Zaurus is the 3.1.3 upgrade with a File Transfer interface separate from
the Qtopia sync software, it is simply a matter of dragging and dropping
the Plucker .pdb files into the Documents folder on my SD expansion card
on the Z.
I have not tried this on any other flavour of Zaurus OS yet, but similar
procedures ought to work. Some of them integrate file transfer into
Qtopia or Intellisync, this would probably reduce the amount of hand
labour involved, but so far I like the separate file transfer option
with OS 3.1.3.
If there's Plucker-capable readers for the WinCE and other non-Palm
handhelds, it ought to be possible to port Plucker installation to them
also. (The only other one I'm familiar with, however, is the Franklin
eBookman, whick just won't read .pdb ... hey, I'm a retrogeek, live with
it.)
