OK, this is most interesting and scary too. I just went to patch another ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty) system and found the contents of /usr/share/usb-creator/install.py to be quite different. In fact it included comments asking had not the same problem been fixed in Intrepid. I cannot explain why the two systems were different. Basically, the code and the issues were similar, but not identical. The same fixes should work if needed but I did not analyze the code at his hour of the morning.
