As much as I love my gnu tool chain, calling Visual Studio crap seems like blind Microsoft hatred (it's still FUD even if directed at an "evil" company). Visual Studio is nearly universally (and correctly imo) considered the best IDE around and for it's primary use case of .NET development trying to do things without an IDE can be very painful.
