I'm wondering how the EllisLab announcement will effect CI and it's users.  I
like CI because it is small, fast, and simple.  One of the statements that
EllisLab made was CI needs to take advantage of all the new PHP features.
There are tons of PHP frameworks that already utilize all the bleeding edge PHP
stuff.

I see CI fitting into a niche where it may not take advantage of all the latest
and greatest while being easy to learn and use, and being straightforward.

Over a two day period I uploaded and looked at probably 4 other PHP frameworks.
Each one of them required that I install additional packages to my server.  CI
does not do that.

I wonder if a large portion of the community is going to jump ship.  I also
wonder if CI is just going to die or if the new owner might take it in a
direction that moves CI out of it's current niche of small, fast, and simple.

The reason for my post was to see if there was any interest in forming a group
that has my thoughts and desires for CI and if there might be some interest in
forming a community that would want to fork CI at some point to keep it small,
fast, and simple.

I by no means have the skills or abilities nor do I have the time to head up a
open source project.  And maybe I'm going down the wrong path.

What are your thoughts?

PS: By the way I posted a question about the EllisLab announcement to AZPHP and
got no response.

I use it extensively... but I would just use the AZPHP group, no need to
segregate IMO.
