I followed your directions, then rebooted, but the problem persists.
There must be another bug in there somewhere. I'll just remove Amarok
from the list of programs to play mp3 files. It's still there if I want it.

If you aren't familiar with the kubuntu-updates PPA. It is run by the
same people that package KDE for kubuntu itself, so it is just as
trustworthy and of the same quality as the distribution packages
themselves.
