I had some really odd issues with using gnome/unity or anything gtk-based on an asus ultrabook I had my work get me, that finally I resorted to trying KDE. It was actually pretty decent, and have been meaning to try it again on here. It had some usability quirks I just couldn't figure out that annoyed me though (like a terminal window opening and shrinking to a 5x5 vty console).

I've been sticking to mate as a non-compositing desktop, as it tends to aggravate my video drivers (damn ati), but I've installed KDE to try on here too. Maybe this weekend with some downtime.

Last time I tried it with 6 displays, it really didn't like it, but having 2 going at work with nvidia chip seemed to be somewhat ok. I agree however, it has come a long way from the 3.x days that plasma was a basketcase.

Thanks for the input everyone!

I use both debian and Ubuntu desktop. I also use both for server.

Brian has gotten me to keep KDE in mind. Last year general awesomeness of
KDE and not liking a single viewable app desktop got me to test KDE again.
I have now moved mostly to KDE for desktop.
