I'm using K3b to burn the data disk. As it turns out their meter is
wrong. They say the DVD should hold 4.7GB and if I look at the disk
info they say the disk is 4.4GB. If I try to burn with more than 4.4GB
of data it does not recognize the DVD. When I remove data and go below
4.4GB it recognized the DVD and will burn the data to the disc.
Minor bug I would say. All is good now!!

burn a DVD and cannot. I get a popup shortly after I insert the
DVD which allows me to open the burner software, however is says
something to the effect that the medium is not valid. I can burn
CD's but not DVD's. A search of Google turns up a bunch of folks
having the same issue with their Win boxes. Most of them said it
was a driver issue.
I can play a DVD movie.
Any pointers much appreciated.
