which showed a LOT of packages that needed to be upgraded (but it seems that "avconv in libav-tools <http://askubuntu.com/questions/563245/avconv-warning-while-downloading-youtube-video> just simply is outdated in the repos, so in this case normal upgrade process will not help <http://askubuntu.com/questions/563245/avconv-warning-while-downloading-youtube-video>."). So it seems the GUI update manager does not update everything. Should I update it or just leave it be? My websearch suggested that I needed to update youtube-dl but that resulted in the following error: sudo youtube-dl --update It looks like you installed youtube-dl with a package manager, pip, setup.py or a tarball.
