I tried using 'sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade' it didn't work. So I did the only thing I know to do. I backed up my files and installed Mint 18 Cinnamon. Problem solved.
Thank you Joseph Sinclair and Brian Cluff for your help.

I did a system update today and now I have a couple of serious problems.

I use Thunderbird mail and today I have reminders that won?t go away. I
tried dismiss and snooze and dismiss all, tried the X in the upper
corner and close in the panel bar at the bottom of the screen. It closes
and comes right back.

I also use Audicity and it?s giving me a debug report when I open the
program. That is also new today after the update. When I click on the OK
button, it clears the debug report and closes the program.

These are the only two programs I?ve used so far today, so I don?t know
what else lurks in my system.

What I would like to do is undo the upgrade and redo the upgrades one
item at a time.

I?ve looked online but can?t locate how to undo updates.

I am using Mint 18. My Update Manager is set to ?Optimize stability and
Security?. I am allowing level 1,2 and 3 updates only. My update
preferences are set to default settings.

51 updates were installed today. My last update was 08/02.

Can anyone tell me how to undo todays update.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
