A little context is needed. What are you migrating from? If you are migrating from another Linux-based system, make sure you perform a backup of your /home folder, plus any other folders you think you will need to backup. Make a list of notable applications you will need. Install Ubuntu on your new machine, and restore your backup. If you are migrating from Windows, it is a lot trickier, and not as straight forward.
