Even if Freenode turns out to be compromised one way or another, that
doesn't incriminate IRC. Just switch IRC servers for the club's IRC
channel.
That's what I did initially. I followed the admins and established a new
channel on Libera.chat.
I followed up today with Matrix and OFTC rooms.
I'm happy to stick with IRC. It's by far my preferred public chat system.
I'm also open to trying new FLOSS options. In the case of Matrix, we can
ostensibly bridge between Matrix and IRC, then people can use whichever
they choose.
I believe there's also an option to bridge between Matrix and Mattermost.

Several of the volunteer staff I know of have resigned. I do not know
them, just know of them. Others that I do know have been actively
helping people move.

I have setup #PLUGaz on there to make sure we don't get squatted off
our normal channel name.
Do we want to move? Do we want to consider other IRC networks?
Do we want to move to Matrix or other FLOSS chat?
In any case, swing by one and/or the other and say hi.
We are requiring nick registration to join the new channel at this
time and Libera.chat does require an email address to register a
nick. It allows sub-addressing, so you can use a unique email
address.
