As mentioned by another reply, WSL2 is best to use. Note that you have to have Windows 10 ver. 2004 for a WSL2 installation. Here are a couple links I found helpful. Microsoft's documentation is very good.

WSL uses Windows built-in Virtual Machine architecture since WSL is essentially a VM running a Linux distro (and you can run multiple distros under WSL, such as Suse, Ubuntu, Redhat, etc).
