If the laptop plugged into an external monitor? If so, disconnect it, reboot, see if the issue can be duplicated.
If the previous steps did not fix the issue, it sounds like a virtual desktop issue. I googled how you can interact with them ... Keyboard Shortcuts Ctrl + Alt + → / ← Move to the workspace on the right or left. Ctrl + Alt + ↑ / ↓ Move to the workspace above or below (if you’ve configured a grid layout). Ctrl + Alt + Shift + → / ← / ↑ / ↓ Move the currently active window to another workspace while staying on your current one.
