I am not trying to start a flame war....but the problem may not be Cox in this situation. I have had my share of issues with Cox over the years, but their customer service in my area has improved recently.
>From your description, it sounds as if your wireless signal cannot reach downstairs. Cox has nothing to do with that. I had the same problem in my house - I lost the signal when moving to one end of the house from the other. I ran a CAT 6 cable from the modem at one end of the house to the other end of the house and set up a second wireless nework. Now I can walk anywhere in the house and not loose signal strength because I bounce from one network to the other as needed. Works for my cell phone, too. I think you will have a faster connection with Cox than DSL with someone else. Just my 2 cents.
