Just to add another suggestion, you might look into is using a
Dvorak keyboard layout - very easy to do with both KDE and Gnome, you
don't need a special keyboard, and you can toggle between layouts if you
choose. Anton Dvorak spent 2 years compiling statistics on typists, and
came up with a simpler layout to reduce the RSI problems with a typical
US "QWERTY" layout. For example, using the home keys on a standard
layout you can spell about 300 words, with Dvorak it's closer to 3000.
It really isn't that hard to learn, either. It took me 3 days to start
touch typing on Dvorak, something I was never really able to do with a
standard keyboard.
As an extra bonus, it discourages anyone else from trying to mess
around with my computers!
