There are many tutorials on how to do this. Some mention recompiling postfix for various reasons, but I don't think any of those related directly to MySQL support. Usually, I think the approach is to use pam to connect postfix to mysql.

These 'ultimate mail server' tutorials make a lot of choices you may disagree with at various points, but I've found it pretty easy to pick & choose the sections I find relevant, and just use those.
