Eau contraire, mon frere. ;)

I access the list via gmane.org's newsreader, so the lists I subscribe to never hit _my_ mail server. I'm a little surprised that gmane.org's server didn't catch it.

Personally, I run spamdyke and spamassassin (part of http://qmailtoaster.com/), with excellent results (1-2 or so spams per day in my spam folder with none in my inbox). I haven't verified to see if this original message would have been rejected by either or not though (I don't see the original headers in the newsreader).

Besides which, as I'm sure you know, once the spam is accepted and posted by the list server, it's much more difficult (and more resource intensive) to detect. This is why I think that it's important for the list server to have the best spam controls possible.

what do you mean? What form of spam controls would you run? The one

Does anyone else find it supremely ironic that one of the folks who
posts the most about hacking and security got compromised?

To be clear - I've been compromised in the past, too, so this is
absolutely NO reflection on Lisa. Sh*t happens to the best of us.

If anything, it's an important lesson... if this can happen to a
security specialist, it can happen to anyone.

I find it more disappointing that the list server lets this sort of spam
onto the list. :(
