Hi,

Is there any chance that the memory ocupied by the
/proc filesystem can be swapped out by the kernel?

A little thought on the above question drives me to
another question.

Is the memory occupied by /proc a part of kernel
memory ?

Let me put in a scenario which led me to this
question.

Assume you've started a process which has mammoth
memory requirements. Since this process needs memory
the kernel will swap out all the other processes one
by one out of the memory. Now, in extreme conditions,
if the process still needs more memory, will the
kernel swap out /proc itself?

According to my thinking it can, but since /proc is
such an important part of the system it raised some
doubts in my mind.

By the means of this question I just wanted to know
the real answer.

Thanks and Regards,
Harshal Vaidya.
