Greetings:

Faced this problem with both Xandros and LindowsOS.
These distros are geared towards Windows User Installation experience.
Hence they overwrite the MBR.

Since, I was just trying out the distros for the user experience,
I put in the RHL CD1 and the installer wrote the 512 bytes on the MBR again
as part of the upgrade process.

In short, when trying a new distro, if possible use a tmp machine.
