Hi,
I tried to run Sax2, but it didn't showup anything i.e
no UI.
I tried to compare the XF86Config files for SuSe9.2
installation and teh
one which gets generated on running Knoppix.
I found that in case of knoppix the Monitor subsection
has DDC probed Horizontal sync. &
vertical refresh are as per the Monitor Manual i.e 30
- 55 Khz, 50 - 120
Hz. However in case of SuSe9.2 the Horizontal sync
limits identified are
30 - 61 KHz. How is that such incorrect limits are
identified?
Now to fix the no display problem in case of Suse9.2 (
if we try to start
X the monitor goes blank and the green power LED of
monitor starts
blinking)
Also the modelines in XF86Config file for Knoppix are
such that for each
resolution there is at least one Horizontal & vertical
frq. combination
which is same as the one specified in monitor manual.
But the modelines for SuSe9.2 have
different values for same resolutions than
corresponding values for
Knoppix. I feel that the ones in Knoppix are correct
since X starts in
this case.
So, I think I have to do the following to fix the
problem:
1. back up XF86Config for Suse9.2
2. Modify the Horizontal frq. for Monitor section in
XF86Config for
Suse9.2. Use the one specified in monitor manual.
3. Add a few a valid modelines from XF86Config for
Knoppix to that of
SuSe9.2 OR should I create a new mode entry and refer
to it else where in
config file?
Please suggest the correct method, I have read about
monitor getting damaged if there is any incompatible
entry.
Also do I need to modify xorg.conf also in the same
manner?
One last question:
Is the method of calculation of modeline from
horizontal, vertical
frequencies and using it standard ? AlsoI don't know
how to calculate one
manually.

A typical entry in XF86Config for knoppix:

        ModelName "SAM 1034"
