Hello Mahendra,
Think ten times before deciding to buy a P4 with
freq above 2.8 GHz.Intel started this number game to attract customers and
has now realized
that increasing the freq does not increase the performance to that extent,it
just increases the
amount of heat and trouble. All the P4s above 2.4 are extremely hot and
so,are
noisy. The 2.8 is bearable but those above 2.8 make a _really_ lot of
noise(unless you have
an AC).I have worked on 2.8 and 3.0 and found no difference except in the
temperature
and the unbearable noise of the 3.0.My own 2.8 itself goes upto 80 degrees
in summer.
A simple test to check how high the temperatures rise(in windoze) is to
lauch the Turbo C++ editor
or run VirtualDub at highest priority with all disk related daemons killed.
Also with the price diff between 2.8 and 3.0 these can buy you some
accessory.

About the motherboards, think twice before buying the latest mbs like 915 or
925.
The prob with 915 is that it has only 2 PATA slots,so,you cant attach a
cdrom,cd-writer,
and the common PATA hdd all at once. There is no slot for a graphics card. The
older 865 has
4 PATA ,2 SATA slots with a slot for graphics card, and is cheaper.

Think seriously about amd,it beats intel's processors in many respects
including price.
Go for ASUS mb if you decide an amd, because AMD and ASUS co-operate to bring
up good products.
If you are interested in gaming then, an AMD with a graphics card is the
best option.AFAIK the only prob with AMD's 64 bit processors' motherboards
is that
they have no good onboard graphics support(like ExtremeGraphics on Intel),
so you _have_ to go for a graphics card for appreciable graphics/gaming.
You can confortably run games and graphics related apps on a P4 without a
GC,
although the performance will not be as good as with a GC.

AMD has long solved its heating prob so there is nothing to worry abt it.
I think you should opt for amd64.I dont know abt the services offered on amd
products in pune, that also should be taken into consideration.

There are lots of reviews of AMD,Intel and benchmarks of AMD Vs Intel on the
net.
Have a look at them.
You can contact me offlist if you want more info or want to hear the noise
yourself ;)
I am not a computer vendor myself ;) Had done a bit of reasearch for my
friends.
Hope this helps.
