First of all thanks,
But unfortunately, its not what i expected to be put in the FAQ,
The following observations might make what i am saying clear
1. The page describes a command but does not give nething about the
workign and procedure to actually go through and in the end finish the
config.
2. too distribution specific, and you don't even mention which
distribution it will workon.
3. No mention of modem stuff, right permissions you need etc. remember
the page is for newbees and they don't really know what to enter at
the "Modem Device". Nobody will even dream about entering /dev/ttySX
here unless they are specifically told to.
I don't expect these pages to be detailed howtos.
What i expect is this
Short answer:
Many distributions already have tools to automatically configure
the internet for you.
Debian: pppconfig (command line ncurses based tool)
Redhat: kppp
Mandrake:
Long answer:
You can refer to an excellent how tos on configuring modems and
dialup internet:
http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/Modem-HOWTO.html
http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/PPP-HOWTO/
In short be descreet, again this is not a place for individual
articles, post here what you will post in typical email answer.
Preferably in above format as far as possible but its not strict.
One more thing : please keep the number of sections down to minimum.
the above stuff goes into hardware configuration, no need to add one
more section.
Sorry for being so criticle, please don't get put off by this. you
contribution is important.
Again thanks for your effort.
