I am appalled... YOu have tons and tons and tons of complaints and even more suggestions, but i don't see any statement being made about what you did about it.... if you are so frustrated it wasn't difficult to compile a list of solutions from the plug archives. I mean the way you are presenting it, i guess you are facing same kind of thing over and over and over and you still haven't done anything about it except wait and see if somebody just will invent a magic stick for your specific needs. This attitude is not going to get you newhere in linux community. Go get yourself gentoo install it completely and get a usable firefox + desktop on it and mail us back. Then when you complete this task you will know what i and many otehres are talking about all this long....... We will have some hope left for you then....
