I would recommend that you learn either vi(m) or GNU
Emacs thoroughly. I understand there is an initial
learning curve involved, but, it will definitely help
you in the long run.  On a personal note ... I will
recommend GNU emacs, moved away from vim.

Text editors are not strong.

emacs works straight with buffers, and hence is
extremely powerful. You don't have to move your
fingers from the keyboard. It comes in really handy
when you are a programmer/system/network administrator
or a GNU/Linux user.
