Hello All

I am facing strange problems while installing Linux on my new PC. It
is a P-4 3.0GHz, 512 DDR-RAM, Intel 915GV motherborad, 120GB Samsung
HDD.
I have installed XP on first partition of 20 GB. And trying to install
Linux on a second 40GB partition.

I tried Debian once which worked fine. After that, I tried RHEL3,
Redhat 9, Fedora 3, Fedora 4 .. *all* failed.

When my PC boots from any of above installable CDs, the Redhat or
Fedora image in the welcome screen is shown garbage. The text in the
welcome screen is red sometimes or green sometimes. Manier time it
comes out while running anaconda and says installtion aborted
abnormally (with some code 11).
If i show patience and boot again and again from the same CDs, it
goes further. But while installing packages it gives an error:
"Installtion failed. This is a fatal error. This may be due to media
failure, no hard-disk space and.or harware problem"
And it forced me to reboot. There no other detailed error message on
any of the other virtual terminals.

I have checked all CDs, they are all fine. I tried changing CD-ROM
drive, changed memories and memory slots. But everytime it fails in
different phases of installation. I tried more than
6/7 different sets of CDs of different distributions, but same thing
keeps happening.

What surprises me is .. XP runs smooth and I also ran some benchmark
where it gave fantastic results ! I could also install Windows 2003
server.

Can anyone give me a clue/guess?

Thanks in advance
