You downloaded niternet manager for linux? You could have just used something 
like kinternet!!! It usually comes out of box with KDE, at least with SuSE.
Otherwise you can play with something like kppp, wvdial etc.
Anyway, now that it's working for you, enjoy! :-)

Do you mean the taskbar? The one that shows minimized windows of running apps 
and is usually docked to bottom of screen? In that case, it's the 'kicker' in 
KDE. If you see it has crashed, just press Alt+F2, and in the pop-up run 
command dialog box, type 'kicker' w/o the quotes.

mplayer... Plays everything... well almost...
for vcd, just use this:
$ mplayer vcd://
