Agtech,
Can you check if the company will allow ssh connectivity to their n/w
instead of VPN ? In my previous org, we had option of VPN as well as
ssh. On window I used to use VPN and on linux I used to ssh.

Since we are on this topic, I want to understand this problem a little
better, since I face this problem myself with my current org. They
don't have ssh (yet)

Here are my queries :

1. As far as I understand VPN is only a generic technical term for
providing secure access to company n/w, unlike ssh, which is specific
implementation.

Here is link supporting my understanding :
http://computer.howstuffworks.com/vpn9.htm

Quote from above wesbite:
"Because there is no widely accepted standard for implementing a VPN,
many companies have developed turn-key solutions on their own."

2. If VPN is generic term and NOT specific implementation, then isn't
the question "Is VPN supported on Linux" invalid ?

3. The real question should be "Does linux have VPN client for server
s/w my company uses ? (say cisco) " e.g CISCO has linux client for
some of their VPN solution.

Again, all my questions may be completely or partially incorrect, If
they are please say so. As I said earlier, I'm trying to understand it
myself, and these are just my opinion.
