hi all,
when i do a df -h, i see the following:
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/hdc1 3.8G 1.6G 2.0G 45% /
tmpfs 125M 0 125M 0% /dev/shm
/dev 3.8G 1.6G 2.0G 45% /.dev
none 5.0M 2.8M 2.3M 55% /dev
can you pl tell me whether the actual %used for the
hdd is 1.6 or 2.8 GB?
Assuming you're talking about /dev/hdc1, you have used 1.6G out of a
total of 3.8G. That is what the column labelled 'Used' shows. It is not
a percentage, rather an actual figure. Also, it means that you've used
about 45% of the 3.8G available, as shown by the column labelled 'Use%'.
This can be read as 55% free space, roughly about 2.0G, which is what is
shown by the 'Avail' column.
why is the %used shown twice?
Answered above.
