Firstly, its is a bad practice to ask a new question in an old thread. This question is new because it has nothing to do with BSNL Data 1 as such, its about sharing net connections. I presume you are not asking about the legal aspect of sharing the connection. > > 1) is it posible to use Linux as a internet proxy > server for Windows machines on lan, if so what is the > best OSS for it ? > Yes, its is possible. Squid is a proxy server. However NAT (Network address translation) is the best way. > 2) Can I use DataOne connection for more than one > computer on lan without proxy server, ie. You do need _some_ device to do the routing for you though. It might be a good idea to pick up an old 386-486 based machine to work solely as a router. You can leave that on, it wont consume as much power. -aditya -- ______________________________________________________________________ Pune GNU/Linux Users Group Mailing List: ([email protected]) List Information: http://plug.org.in/mailing-list/listinfo/plug-mail Send 'help' to [EMAIL PROTECTED] for mailing instructions.
