I had similar problem when installing (Dual boot) Ubuntu 5.10 When I told the installer to use my exisitng PCQLinux 2K partition (which was already ext3) why does it go ahead and mess with boot loader, I don't know. My windows wouldn't even boot. ..and I had aborted/cancelled Ubuntu install when ubuntu installer started giving errors about C:\Docume~1\ .... files. Again, why does it mess with Windows Partition at all ? When I checked using knoppix 4.02, there were few found.000, found.001 ... directory in C:. Thanks to Knoppix I was able to backup important data to other partion before re-installing XP. Righ now I have only XP. Planning to put knoppix on my ext3 partition.
