Hey, I read a thread regarding sify Broadband connection problems in linux .. but since i have just joined the plug ... i couldn't directly reply to the thread.
Solution ( i want a beer for this ;-) If you have a sify BB and not able to connect using the linux software they have given ... just call up sify and kick there a** and tell them that you want to login using linux or you want your money back. They would most probably ask your mac address and let this mac bypass there proxy and allow clear text authentication. And now simply use the software they have provided (for linux or mac) and enjoy BB on Linux. Digging down this evil software (using strace and strings) .. i found out that this software just contacts the gateways using HTTP-POST protocol and sends the clear text password. If you want to avoid using the software you could open the gateways IP in browser and send password and username as HTTP POST ( i forgot the variable names ;-) cheers !!
