You could try booting your computer with a LiveCD of one of the various Linux distributions available. Ubuntu is a popular distribution available as a LiveCD that can be installed onto your computer (if you wish to do so). In your case, you could simply boot your computer off this LiveCD, and test each of your components. A prepackaged Linux distribution may not support your hardware out of the box. You may have even go to the extent of building a custom linux distribution from source, and then installing this onto a USB drive. I'd done just this in Jan last year using Gentoo Linux.
