Lappies are strange beasts. Unlike desktops all components are tightly integrated by the OEM and certified with an **OEM** version of Windows. Install Windows from retail discs and you will most likely run into similar problems. I have an AMD Turion 64 HP notebook (ATI 200M GPU, Broadcom WiFi) and each of the Linux distros have some quirks. 1. Ubuntu 8.04.1 - offers to install proprietary drivers for ATI 200M for accel. 3D graphics and firmware for WiFi. WiFi works but the prop. ATI drivers does not! Suspend and Hibernate do *not* work. 2. Mandriva 2008.1, Suspend and Hibernate *work*. Have not investigated installing prop. drivers/firmware for ATI/Broadcom resp. 3. Fedora 9 - get 3D accel. graphics out of box but not WiFi. Suspend/Hibernate does not work. I have ended up using Mandriva 2008.1 as suspend/hibernate is high on my wish list. For laptops the best combo is to go with Intel chip sets. -- Arun Khan -- ______________________________________________________________________ Pune GNU/Linux Users Group Mailing List: ([email protected]) List Information: http://plug.org.in/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/plug-mail Send 'help' to [EMAIL PROTECTED] for mailing instructions.
