AFAIR, normal text mode doesn't support unicode rendering. Maybe you need to 
use VESA graphics mode (?) to see the unicode character set. IMO, its not a bug.

emails contain 'Content-Type: text/plain; charset="utf-8"' which helps email 
readers to properly detect and display the content properly. I see 'From: 
=?UTF-8?B?4KSuLuCkueCkvi7gpLjgpL4u4KSXLuCksA==?= <[email protected]>' if I 
look at source of the email.
