It awfully sounds like a problem with rendering fixed width fonts, where e.g. a char array of length 'n' should occupy same amount of space no matter what characters are in it. Think ASCII (or unicode) diagrams surrounded by devanagri text. I don't think its possible in context of devanagari to do this except to stick to this "broken" jodakshar (is there a pun hidden here? ).
