Forced need of MS Office for filing ITRs has been discussed in various OSS forums. So let me not provide much context.
This year, open/libre office seems to have evolved to run macros in ITR forms. I am using above mentioned version which seems to run the macros fine. Have just taken a cursory look, so not in a position to confirm whether everything works as it should, but at least the compatibility looks better than it was till last year. Anyway, I think, there will continue to be some risk in using anything other than MS Office... If anyone has successfully used libre/open/other OSS office for this purpose, or can comment on whether it's possible to validate the final xml produced for validity constraints, please share your comments. (BTW, not sure whether the upload procedure of xml on IT website itself would do the necessary validations, so that you can afford to worry less about the all macros running exactly same as msoffice in an alternative office software.)
