I would recommend Thunderbird. Its free, open source, cross-platform,
works on open standards and protocols and simply the best one out there.

Hi,
There is a need to use a desktop based email client instead of webmail.
User is not familiar with CLI, so pine and mutt are out of question.
The requirement is that the users mails should/can be moved across various
operating systems/Linux distros or even various Windows versions. That too
without any data loss.
Can you please suggest some good email client for this purpose. Please
share your experiences in this activity of usage, migration.
Not to forget about the multiple accounts across various domains and the
keys.
