Thats what I do if i want to remove the lilo from the mbr (fdisk/mbr)
and it will boot to win9x the way it was before, as long as the win9x
partition is (set to) active.  your linux partition is still intact,
what was removed is the boot prompt only.  and if ever you want to
access your linux partition again, in case if you are using redhat
(thats the only distro I am familiar with)), boot using the linux boot
disk (i hope you created one during your installation) and once it is
done. login as root and run lilo and your boot prompt is back.
