There's a 3D card comparison at http://www.linuxgames.com/articles/linux3dcards/ which is interesting. Didn't know you could play Quake III Arena with a Rage Pro (!!) on at least a Celeron-450A. There's also some benchmarks of the NVIDIA cards (TNT2, GeForce SDR) on the main linuxquake.com web page. The GeForce kicks ass (as usual). What's interesting about the 3D card comparison is that on a 450MHz CeleronA, 800x600 high-quality, a Voodoo3 can cough up 44fps. My own machine (570MHz Celeron, 800x600 high-quality, Voodoo3@183Mhz) coughed up 48fps on Windoze. Although that includes A3D 2.0 high-quality sound. I guess that means DRI OpenGL on Linux is as fast or faster than OpenGL on Windoze. Hurrah! And you can play Q3A on a Rage Pro! the Sun Ultra5 workstations have that kind of chip.. Q3A on an Ultra5 running SparcLinux.
