well, i was already convinced an eon ago that 3com switches are still out
preformed by their cisco, nortel and intel brothers and sisters but i did
not know that the HP equivalents are good too.

thanks for the information orly. i did not know that HP made some good
switches. the 4000M might be low end but i think it is sufficient for the
project and i will add it to my recommendation list.
