[plug] recovering from a tar file

hi everyone,

is it still possible to recover the files in a tar file if the tar
displays:

"tar: Skipping to next file header"

after doing a tar xzvf tarfile.tgz?

I tarred my data into one very big tar file and I need to get the files
now! is this file corrupted already and cannot be given a workaround?
