The passphrase will be asked no matter what mail client you use, 
if you stored your private key encrypted with a passphrase. Store
it unencrypted (dangerous) and the passphrase dialog will go away.

Communicaator (Netscape mail) has SSL lightly integrated.  I do not know
if it has PGP support.
