Check out HylaFax <http://www.hylafax.org/>. I'm using v4.1-beta2. It's
pretty neat. My system listens to one of the two phone lines connected to
modems connected to my Linux server that's on 24x7 and automatically
receives faxes there. Received faxes are stored on the server and are
accessed via the HylaFax daemon which listens to port 4557 I think. The
notifications of received and/or un-received due to error faxes are sent
to faxmaster@localhost. I set up a mailbox which is accessed via IMP for
this faxmaster user.

Some things that may be possible but I haven't worked out yet:
1. Instead of people logging in to a faxmaster account to check faxes,
I'll have a "faxes" shared Maildir care of Courier IMAP.

2. Set up HylaFax to be able to accept incoming logins, too.
