i tested the tar.gz files after i downloaded them and i tested
them again just right now and both the SDK and the JRE untarred
well. you download must have been a bad download. sorry but i
think you should try again.
you can download it straight from the ibm site if you think it
is faster...or tell a philonline sysad to get it for you.
