hello. there is a port of domino server r5 for linux. all you need is the
jit library in your /usr/lib, which you can get from the ibm jdks. got it
to work in AdMULinux 1.0.

as far as i know, there is no client program for linux yet, so you have to
test your setup with a windows machine. or you can use the web interface
of lotus notes.

some thoughts..the more i think about it, the more i realize that building
a messaging system around lotus notes needs a lot of planning and
preparation. after all, notes is not just about e-mail, but a full
messaging and collaboration platform. as an alternative to MS Exchange, it
integrates the mail protocols SMTP/POP/IMAP with LDAP. it has web access
built into it, mail routing capabilities, aliasing, etc. it is a
certificate server. it also has calendaring/scheduling capabilities,
delegation and discussion databases. notes people call it
"groupware" functionalities.

more than a year ago, i set about trying to duplicate as much of lotus
notes using open source. it was a nightmare setting it up. there's just so
much things to consider. i'm still into it. hopefully, with mike
maravillo's talk materials, i can get something decent to work with.
