Apparently there is *some* Linux support for "WinModems"... usually,
vendor released driver binaries.. and mostly PCI winmodems, not ISA. check
out http://www.linmodems.org/
I got a binary-only driver module for the winmodem that is built into the
compaq armada e500 notebook. This is a Lucent 56K winmodem. The driver was
compiled under RedHat, Kernel 2.2.12. The notebook is fully functional
under debian linux, with the modem driver, even PPP works.
